About NMHRN
New Mexico Horse Racing News was created to provide a one stop place on the Internet for up to date information and the promotion of the New Mexico horse racing industry. New Mexico horse racing has always been just outside public awareness. NMHRN plans to foster public attention to our state with pictures and stories that will allow the public to develop a connection to the horses and people of this great industry. We are building a platform to promote and connect the public to the great horses, people and racetracks that are New Mexico racing.
One goal is to keep the people of our industry up to date and aware of the multitude of issues facing our sport both within the state and national level. Medication rules, racino legislation, take out percentages, and Internet gambling are but a few of the immediate concerns that face our industry. It is important for all involved in horse racing to stay up to date on these issues and take an active role in how these issues are resolved.
Another goal is to build a bridge between the public, the horses and people of the backside. The public perception of horse racing is at an all time low. With all the news about high percentage takeouts, improper use of medications, the number of horses off the track that are sent to slaughter and seeing catastrophic break-downs on televised races, the general public tend to believe that people involved in horse racing are money hungry grubbers with no concern of the individual horse’s welfare. The racetracker’s perception is that the public does not understand the industry and we tend to shrug off public perception. We no longer have that luxury; we must address public concerns and reach out as individuals to help foster understanding and gain new fans.
Our hope is to build a community where everyone can come for news, discussion, debate and even fun. We cannot do this alone, we need your help. Comment on the posts, join in the upcoming discussions and spread the word. Phase I is launched and has been a success. Phase II is reaching completion and will be launched around the first of the year. Phase II will be innovative and interesting. It will also help finance our upcoming projects.
